GRL’s James Powderly detained in Beijing for planning pro-Tibet “L.A.S.E.R. Stencil” art protest

Tuesday 26th August 2008.

James Powderly, a founder of New York’s Graffiti Research Lab, is apparently detained in China in relation to his LED throwies. The arrangment of small LED lights are like electronic graffiti, allowing one to tag by sticking these LED lights on a surface. The throwies were prearranged to say "Free Tibet" for the Beijing games. The arrest was 5 days ago, and a quick glance on the web says nothing about his release. Check out Boing Boing for more info. Eyebeam’s clean version just for fun, and pictures of LED throwies.
